On the Water Blog

The weather has been perfect over the past week. Not too much sun and a little cool breeze making it comfortable. I fished the reef a couple of days and found the Yellowtail bite to be strong. Fish size can vary with the moon cycle and we found nice fish in the 15-17 inch range on the bottom and rising up to the chum. A strip of squid on a 1/8 oz jig put the bait in the right spot. The current has been moving to the west at a fairly good clip and that means your chum will disappear faster than you think so bring a few extra boxes.  We found a few nice Red Grouper in 94 feet on the drop off in front of Western Dryrocks. Boats have been scatteded all over the end of the Bar and species caught varied in each location. Kingfish, Spanish and Cereo Mackerel, Red Grouper, Black Grouper, Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail and Porgies all hit the filet table this week.  The water is running about 79-80 degrees outside the reef.

The upcoming week looks like we should have a front pass through and drop the temperature on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 27th-29th.  Only a month to go before the Grouper ban starts.
