On the Water Blog

The cold snap we had a few weeks ago impacted the fishing here in the lower Keys but we are getting back to normal with all the sunshine over the past few days.  The East winds have brought loads of Sailfish in and some Dolphin are mixed in.  Wahoo fishing has been the best in a long time. Fish are stacked up over the deep wrecks and will respond to deep trolled baits as well as live baits.  A fresh live speedo dropped down over a big wreck will be the best bet.

The water on the reef has been crystal clear and I spent some time looking for water where the visibility was less than 80 feet. The clear water makes the bottom fishing difficult but moving deeper will offset the clear water problem.  Yellowtail have been tough the last week or two and most fish have been small.

With the wind moving south on a regular basis it would be a good idea to plan some Gulf wreck fishing when it moves south. The water on the backside will be calmer and the Cobia, Kingfish Lane and Mutton Snapper bite is red hot.
