Jen Ehren with a Hawk Channel patch reef Red Grouper

With the weather making a significant improvement we have seen the fishing start to take off. Offshore we are seeing loads of sailfish start to filter in with the east and northeast winds.  Live bait drifting and kite fishing in the 120-160 foot depth has been the most productive and you will find sails, Tunas, Bonito, Kingfish and an occassional Wahoo pick up your bait.

Reef fishing has been very good and the Grouper bite has been great. A few weeks to go before you can keep a Grouper but we have had some great days in both the Gulf and Atlantic. Big Red and Black Grouper in the Atlantic and a couple of days of 20+ gags in the 27”-30” range in the Gulf. Yellowtail, Mutton Snapper, Mangrove Snapper and Porgies are also biting good.

Closer to shore is a great option in a little wind and the patch reefs in Hawk Channel are on fire with Red Grouper, Mutton Snapper and other misc fish.
