It’s beginning to FEEL a lot like Christmas… It is chilly, windy and bright with lower than usual temperatures. We pass each other with a brrr on our lips all bundled up in layers of our tropical wear. It’s all so much fun. We think of our far away friends; wishing all a safe and happy holiday season. Sorry that so many are being challenged by all the snow so make your plans now to come on down for a visit. We would love to see you! For those you live on the island or are visiting for the holidays, please be sure to check out our community calendar for all the wonderful festivities to make the season bright.
Still looking for the perfect gift? Visit our many galleries. We are truly blessed to have so many talented people in the 3x5 mile space. A list of galleries will be provided at the bottom but I do want to mention several new galleries:
BLUE TURTLE GALLERY: The creator of this web site, Teresa Willis, owns the Blue Turtle Gallery at Virginia & Whitehead. I went to a holiday open house there a week ago and was very impressed by her fabulous paintings. The juxtaposition of her vibrant colors set against the historic architecture of the old church was thrilling. In addition to depiction of local flora & fauna, she has a beautiful collection of her nudes. Added to her work, are the bronze sculptures by the multi-talented Jane Rohrschneider. Teresa’s special connection with the Asian market through her brother brings some of the most unusual lady’s bags you will ever want to see. What’s even more amazing is that they are made out of re-cycled materials!
FRANGIPANI GALLERY: Check out Frangipani, a brand new art gallery at 1102A Duval St created by long time Key West Painter and art teacher, Fran Decker. The gallery showcases the work of 12 different artists with Fran’s work leads the line-up with her colorful landscapes, still lifes and whimsical scenes. Others include such talents as my long time friend, William Welch, Christine Black, Steven Hoppough, Will Fernandez, Jessica Wilson, KT Timberlake, Lois Griffin, Irene Stanton, Wendy Jerkel, Jennifer Martin and girl pal Lois Songer who uses the old Lampworking technique to create her beautiful beaded jewelry.
JOY GALLERY: While Joy Gallery is not new to our community it is under new ownership. I know longtime local artist, Judi Bradford, is now showing her works which is reason enough alone to visit the gallery at 1122 Duval Street.
