The air is filled with electricity as the 2010 campaign for King and Queen of Fantasy Fest 2010 is underway. In its 21st year, the campaign kicked off on August 28th in the gorgeous setting at the Southernmost House around an azure pool with the sun shining and lovely breezes coming off the water. The gathering was attended by hundred of local supporters. Five candidates were announced; 2 for king and 3 for queen. Christopher Elwell and Stephen “Sunshine” Sunday are this year’s king candidates while Elaine Chinnis, Anne O’Shea and Surrey Westrupp have their eyes on the Queen’s crown.
This annual eight-week event is to raise money for AIDS Help; our local AIDS support service organization. Whichever candidate in each category raises the most money by Coronation on October 22nd, will reign as King & Queen. So until that date, you will see these dedicated, hardworking, caring individuals hosting events, running raffles, playing BINGO, guest bartending, singing karaoke, fishing, cooking and who knows what all in the name of charity. Many locals think that this time of the year is a lot more fun that Fantasy Fest week itself. I will be featuring a candidate each week and running all their events so be sure to check the calendar!
